At long last our buddy Will and his long time partner Vanessa finally tied the knot. Congratulations to both of them. Here are sample photos from the wedding reception. All taken with Nikon 85mm f1.4G. I really love this lens!!! Now it’s one of my favorite along side Nikon 70-200mm F2.8G VRII and the Nikon 105mm F2.8G Micro VR lenses. The Nikon 50mm f1.4G still have a special place in my heart but the 85mm beats it in may ways. My only gripe is that the auto focus is hit and miss specially on low-light. The Nikon 70-200mm F2.8G VRII is is the winner in terms of focus but the 85mm is darn bokehlicious!!! Continue reading
Another rainy Sunday evening and we’re about to hit the sack. Jenny and Kae were playing “Monkey Ball” on Kae’s tablet and they’re having so much fun I realized why not freeze the moment. Before Kae realizes what’s going on (’cause she really hates the camera) I quickly grab my cam and shoot away. Our room light is not as bright so I crank up my ISO to 2000, shoot with an aperture of F2.8. Even though I stop down at F2.8 from the widest F1.4, it’s still considered wide. I guess F4 would be the ideal aperture for this kind of shot. I can see some softness on the shot making Jenny’s eyelashes the sharpest part of the photo and Kae’s face a bit soft. Oh and the shutter speed is 1/50 of a second. I took probably 6 shots but this one says it all plus converting it to black and white made it a Kodak Moment in this case a Nikon Moment.

My daughter Kirsten Jae is one of the hardest subject I’ve ever shot. She is never still like the Energizer Bunny. I think she hates the camera. Whenever she was told to look at the camera, she do faces or shake her head to purposely blur my shots as if she knows that my shutter speed is low and my aperture wide-open. Seems like she is mocking me that I would never get her pretty picture. So I waited hang around with her while the camera is on my side, waiting for the right moment to strike like a lion stalking a gazette – That is a good metaphor. The glow coming from a morning sunlight gave it a fresh innocent looking effect. Hope you like the photos. Cheers!
It’s been almost three (3) decades since Youth Of Today hits the streets of New York to spread the word of hardcore, youth crew style! We all know Ray Cappo the musician slash guru slash spiritualist slash vegan slash – this guy is just talented! He is also known as front man of several bands like Better Than A Thousand, Reflex From Pain and my personal favorite Shelter. Youth Of Today’s Sound is way different from Shelter – is a Krishnacore band a mash up of Krishna consciousness and melodic hardcore and also promotes straightedge and vegan lifestyle. Seeing YOT at the first time is like being a kid again, Ray Cappo is like a spiritual messenger. I see in his eyes the love he gives to the crowd and the fans. He is a big fan of the fans. Everyone just loves the guy. He even did a hand stand requested by the audience showing how game he was. Speaking of audience, the crowd is just awesome! They (including me) love all the tunes YOT played, sing-song with them and mosh with them – good times! Coincidentally the same day is Singapore Youth Day – Youth Of Today on Youth Day! Hmm catchy. This is the 10th edition of the Bound By Honour created by Reconstrux Booking (Singapore). This show is like a mini Southeast Asian Hardcore Fest. Bands from Thailand’s Monument X and Philippines’ Piledriver came to celebrate this event also the Lion City favorites straight edge hardcore – Straight Forward and growing legend Overthrown shared the stage with YOT. Ten awesome hardcore events and we expect more!!!
I really don’t know how to start this article but all I can say is that Overthrown is one of the best hardcore bands of this era not just in Southeast Asia but globally. I’m always a big fan of New York Hardcore (NYHC) and always looking for the traditional sound of it. Look no further ’cause OT is very true to the sound, the message and idealism behind what HC is all about. They truly are “hardcore” figuratively speaking. If you grew up listening to Agnostic Front, Madball, Strife, Earth Crisis, Terror, Hatebreed and SickOf It All you would definitely like OT they’re kinda mix of those influences. Continue reading
Memphis May Fire is the fisrt concert I shot for the year 2013 and I say it’s a great start. Summer is almost here in Southeast Asia and we need rain and it came but in a form of …fire? That is Memphis May Fire but it’s only March? Yeah I know I’m bad at jokes but seriously this band made it rain fire!
This is one of my personal project that I’m itching to do for a long time. I had a lot of fun doing this themed photo shoot and Kirsten Jae (Baby Kae) is so cute with her ragged outfit. She never gave any problem while shooting, she just roam around like a “Vagabond Child”, very innocent and full of life. It’s really heartbreaking to see a child stripped off all the convenience in life and force to beg on the streets. Continue reading
One early morning of July I saw Renz wide awake. Usually I always wake up earlier than him but this time he is really awake and full of anticipation. He told me that Med (St.Martin CEO) approved his sponsorship. We are both stoked about the awesome news so there’s no time to waste, we right away thought of making promotional shots for him but we still don’t know where it might end up. We’re like Yusuki Takeo(Green G) & York Uno tag team. For those who’s not familiar with Yusuki Takeo a.k.a. Green G, he’s one of the best BMX photographers of all time he is know for photos on BMX Plus Magazine. And York Uno is one of the top ranking BMX Flatland rider in the world. OK back to the promo shots, we’re not as close compare to them but we feel like we are and we have our own style. These are just few of the shots I’ve taken and there are a lot of good photos from the set. I’ll just keep them for the rainy season.
